The dangers of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning are so important that we have devoted an entire area to it. Nearly 300 people in the U.S. die from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning every year.
CARBON MONOXIDE - It's invisible, odorless and tastless. It is a product of the incomplete combustion and the distribution of the burning process of a variety of fuel sources due to the lack of oxygen. Examples of these fuels are:
Gasoline - Natural Gas - Wood - Diesal - Kerosene - Charcoal - Coal
HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES AS A THREAT - Many household appliances can be a source of Carbon Monoxide production if not installed or functioning properly including adequate ventilation. These appliances include:
Gas Furnace - Gas Water Heater - Gas Stove and Oven - Fuel-filled Space Heaters - Gas Dryer
FIREPLACES - Because today's homes are so well insulated and sealed, improperly functioning or vented fireplaces are a major threat for Carbon Monoxide production. Maintenance of the chimney and flues are essential. Have your system checked yearly by a qualified professional.
GARAGES - A car left running (even if the door is open) in a garage can generate dangerous amounts of the toxic gas. This is also true for most any gas powered device including lawn mowers, snow blowers and kerosene heaters. Always provide enough ventilation.
