Improving Indoor Air Quality by Pollutant Removal
FIBERGLASS PANEL FILTER - Many people mistake the panel type filter that comes with your heating, ventilating and cooling system as a total air filter, but all that filter is specifically designed for is to protect the system primarily from dust and larger particles that might cause it to malfunction. An electrostatic filter will function in its place with approximately the same efficiency, the difference being is that it is non-disposable. To adequately remove the indoor air pollutants you need an AIR CLEANER.
AIR CLEANER EFFICIENCY - Efficiency is usually expressed as a percentage of particles removed from the air passing through the air cleaner. Look for an air cleaner that has a high efficiency rating for both relatively large particles like pollen, dust mites and dust mite waste particles (10-100 microns), and also smaller irritants such as dust and mold spores (.01 to 30 microns).
ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER - This type of air cleaner gives particles an electrical charge which attracts them to collection plates. When the collection plates and ionizing wires are clean, they can approach 99% efficiency. However, they lose efficiency as they collect more dirt and must be cleaned frequently.
NON - ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER - This type of air cleaner uses a high efficiency pleated media filter to remove particles by one or more filtering principles - straining, diffusion, or interception - to trap a wide range of particle sizes. Both electronic and non-electronic air cleaners have approximately the same average efficiencies, but unlike the electronic air cleaner, the non-electronic air cleaner media type air cleaner's efficiency increases with use. These are also sometimes referred to as HEPA - type air cleaners. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particle Air cleaners.
NON - ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS WITH ULTRAVIOLET - This air cleaner utilizes a pre-filter for coarse particle entrapment, a pleated media filter, and a germicidal ULTRAVIOLET lamp. UV lamps have been used for more than 40 years to disinfect the air in health care facilities, food processing and pharmaceutical facilities. Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) actively "kills" bacteria and viruses by destroying their DNA.
NON - ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS WITH UV-PLUS - This cleaner combines everything included in the previous cleaner plus an enhanced UV lamp capable of producing a controlled amount of trivalent oxygen - also known as ozone. In-duct oxidation ensures that ozone is used safely. It utilizes the central HVAC system ductwork - not the occupied living space as the oxidation reaction chamber. Ozone provides increased effectiveness against molds and mold products. It also breaks down and destroys unpleasant odors.
